I wrote this essay based on my experiences in northern Ghana, and like I say in the article, I believe that US individuals and institutions (particularly medical programs) should continue to encourage work at home and abroad on these important issues.
There is more that we can do to provide incentives to residents who want to work abroad during their training and to physicians who primarily want to work with the underserved as their vocation.
